Bituminous Pavement Constructed with Municipal Solid Waste Combustor Ash: Construction, Performance, and Economic Issues

چکیده

The Polk County Solid Waste Department, located in Polk County Minnesota, participates in a complete integrated solid waste management program that includes four other counties in northwest Minnesota. One component of the integrated solid waste management program includes the operation of a municipal waste combustor (MWC) that com busts approximately 65 tons per day of processed solid waste. The starved air design of the combustor causes low turbulence in the primary burning chamber minimizing particulate carryover through the system. This results in generation of approximately 12 tons per day of combined ash comprised of 98 to 99 percent bottom ash and I to 2 percent fly ash, by weight.

Evaluation of Leachate Emissions from Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Bottom Ash and Crushed Rock Used in Road Construction

The use of municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) bottom ash in road construction may possess a risk to the environment due to the release of e.g. salt and heavy metals. In this study, two years of leachate data from a test road built of MSWI bottom ash and crushed rock in northern Sweden were evaluated. It was found that Cu, Cr, Al, Na, and Clwere leached in higher amounts from the bottom a...

Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Combustor Ash Demonstration Program “The Boathouse”

This report presents the results of a research program designed to examine the engineering and environmental acceptability of using municipal solid waste (MSW) combustor ash as an aggregate substitute in the manufacture of construction quality cement blocks. Approximately 350 tons of MSW combustor ash was combined with Portland cement to form standard hollow masonry blocks using conventional bl...

Mercury emissions during cofiring of sub-bituminous coal and biomass (chicken waste, wood, coffee residue, and tobacco stalk) in a laboratory-scale fluidized bed combustor.

Four types of biomass (chicken waste, wood pellets, coffee residue, and tobacco stalks) were cofired at 30 wt % with a U.S. sub-bituminous coal (Powder River Basin Coal) in a laboratory-scale fluidized bed combustor. A cyclone, followed by a quartz filter, was used for fly ash removal during tests. The temperatures of the cyclone and filter were controlled at 250 and 150 degrees C, respectively...

Analyzing policy impact potential for municipal solid waste management decision-making: A case study of Taiwan

In the past 20 years, municipal solid waste policies have changed in response to societal and environmental changes. Municipal solid waste policies in many countries become more complicated and numerous. This paper reviews several models developed to support decision making in the area of municipal solid waste management (MSWM). It has been discovered that many modern decisionmaking support sys...

Evaluation of Geotechnical Properties of Local Clayey Soil Blended with Waste Materials

Nowadays, disposal of waste materials has become a matter of serious concern due to environmental and ecological issues. In this paper, an attempt is made to determine an optimum proportion mix suitable for geotechnical applications by blending the locally available clayey soil with sand, fly ash, tile waste and jute fibers. This optimum mix provides a cheaper construction material and helps in...
